Nature experience areas

Parks & experience areas

Welcome to the nature experience areas of Campus Stadt Natur!

We run nature experience areas for children at three locations in Berlin: in the park at Gleisdreieck, in Kienbergpark and on Tempelhofer Feld. At these special places, children can muddle, climb, romp, explore nature and develop their own creative play ideas to their heart's content.

What is a nature experience area?

Nature experience areas are natural open spaces in the urban environment that invite children to become explorers themselves. In the densely populated city, nature experience spaces offer a stimulating and organisable environment that children can hardly find in their everyday lives in Berlin today.

The nature experience area gives children the opportunity to have direct contact with nature despite living in an urban environment - without play equipment and, where possible, without adults dictating the play. The aim is to fulfil an important basic need of children: Free play in nature.

Free play in nature promotes children's creativity, concentration, social skills, motor skills and awareness of nature. They can gain elementary experiences in and with nature without any time pressure. The adults deliberately stay in the background and let the children's imagination and creativity run wild.

Get to know us

We offer taster sessions for daycare groups and primary school classes in all three nature experience areas. We also offer training courses for educators and teachers as well as for people who pass on knowledge and information. The focus is on children's experience of nature and its importance for children's development.
